West Australia 2023

I took these images of the April 20, 2023 total solar eclipse from the deck of the cruise ship P&O Pacific Explorer off the coast of Western Australia, near Exmouth. All images were taken with an astro-modified Canon EOS R camera through a 100-400 mm zoom lens set at 400 mm. Shot at f/8 ISO 400 and processed with Pixinsight except as noted.
A single 1/8000th second exposure, taken during the first seconds of totality. Note the colorful chromosphere along the bottom edge, as well as the bright prominences on the left.
A single 1/8000th second exposure, taken near the midpoint of totality.
This image is a composite of three separate exposures: two for the corona and one for the chromosphere. Corona exposures shot at 1/250th second, chromosphere shot at 1/8000 second. Processed using Photoshop and PixInsight.
